RI Lasallians commit themselves to the educational mission

11/27/12 – Providence, RI — On Tuesday evening, 27 November, 35 members of the Rhode Island Lasallian Association Group (RILAG) gathered for their annual Commissioning Service at the La Salle Academy (Providence) Brothers’ Chapel and Residence. RILAG has membership from the five Lasallian schools/agencies in the Rhode Island area (La Salle Academy, Ocean Tides, Saint Raphael Academy, The San Miguel School, and Tides Family Services).

Brother Dennis Malloy, FSC, Visitor of DENA, presided over the Commissioning and offered a reflection on association for the membership. During the service members committed themselves for another year to the Mission of RILAG and shared among themselves and with the entire group the meaning of their commitment at this point in their vocational journey.

Following the service, Sarah Laitinen who serves as Chair of the Coordinating Group, presented a gift to Brother Dennis for the District Solidarity Fund. Members had been asked to contribute to this fund as a visible sign of their commitment to association within the context of the District and in order to stand alongside their fellow Lasallians who are suffering the aftereffects of Hurricane Sandy.

The members then moved from the Chapel to the Fontaine Alumni Center where they enjoyed a catered meal through the kind generosity of La Salle Academy and the Brothers’ Community of La Salle Academy.

RILAG’s next event will be Christmas Caroling at the Jeanne Jugan Residence for the Elderly, conducted by the Little Sisters of the Poor, to be followed by a Christmas Social to be hosted by the St. Joseph Lasallian Community in Pawtucket.
