Lasallians from across Rhode Island come together to educate
10/19/11 – Pawtucket, RI – The Freshmen Class of Saint Raphael Academy recently participated in a Faith, Service, Community Day. The day began with a prayer service at which president/principal, Maryann Donohue-Lynch spoke about Lasallian ministries worldwide, and senior, Brenden Knight spoke about Service and his experiences in Lasallian Youth.
The members of the class of 2015 then had an opportunity to do some community service. Students helped out at the Pawtucket YMCA, Heritage Park Child Care Center, Fogarty Manor, the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen, and Darlington Assisted Living.
Following their service experience, students attended one of four workshops on the following topics: Hunger, presented by Adrienne Marchetti, Director of the Pawtucket Soup Kitchen; At Risk teens and Poverty, presented by Lasallian Volunteer, Connie Jones; Peace and Non-violence, presented by Kevin Regan, San Miguel School, and the Homeless, presented by Meghan Farrelly, Director of the Woonsocket Homeless Shelter.
After lunch students participated in small group discussions with members of the Senior class who spoke about their experiences of Faith, Service and Community at Saint Raphael Academy. The day concluded with a prayer service and induction of Freshmen into Lasallian Youth.
