The Baltimore District announced the commencement dates and speakers for each of its thirteen schools for Spring 1962.
The largest number of graduates (626) will receive diplomas from La Salle College, while the next largest graduation classes are from:

La Salle Military Cadets Hit Europe for 6 Weeks
To improve their speaking abilities in French and Spanish, 24 cadets from La Salle Military Academy (Oakdale, NY) spent six weeks touring Europe this summer. Three Brothers accompanied them.

Philadelphia Protectory Becomes St. Gabriel’s Hall
The Philadelphia Protectory for Boys has a new name! In order to modernize the image and the reality of this institution for at-risk youth, permission has been received to rename it “St. Gabriel’s Hall.” St. Gabriel Possenti was an Italian seminarian (of the Passionist congregation) who died shortly before ordination. Taught by the Christian Brothers in Spoleto (Italy), he was the first “Brothers’ Boy” to be declared a saint (1920) in Institute history, and was declared the “Patron Saint for Rebellious Youth.” 1962 is the 100th anniversary of St. Gabriel’s death, so this choice is highly appropriate.

Dignitaries Enjoy Gymnastics at St. John’s
Civic dignitaries enjoyed gymnastic displays as demonstrated by the students of St. John’s Industrial School (Uxbridge, Ontario) on August 15. Highlights included the vaulting horse, parallel bars, high bar, and rhythmical exercises.

La Salle College Centennial Year Begins
La Salle College began its special centennial year (1863-1963) with a new orientation program for Evening Division students on August 23.

That is true John , you have to search through old copies of the Uxbridge Times journal ,or at the Ontario archives for the ontario training schools annual report. For many the school was the only home they knew . I loved the christmas lights up on the big antena , the christmas trees in each dining room . The nativity creche in the chapel . St. Johns was my home for close to 5 years .I had many memories of my stay . Good luck in your search. Bill
