A well-attended Mass of Thanksgiving was celebrated by Cardinal William Keeler of Baltimore at the Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, catercorner to the site of the second Calvert Hall (built in 1891). This began the Baltimore District’s observance of the Sesquicentennial (1845-1995) saluting the permanence of the Christian Brothers in the United States.
