Brother Solomon, secretary to Brother Agathon (Superior General), suffered martyrdom. Brother Solomon had refused to take the oath to support the Civil Constitution of the Clergy, was arrested, and was imprisoned with others who resisted the excesses of the French Revolution. On September 2, the prisoners were brought in pairs to the monastery garden of the Carmelites where they were bludgeoned to death. Brother Solomon was canonized in 2016. This day is commemorated by Lasallians as the feast day of martyrs of the French Revolution, which includes Brothers Roger, Leon, and Ulfric who perished as prisoners on the rotting hulks in the harbor of Rochefort (France).
