When Brother Timothy served as the second Superior General of the Institute (1720-1751), the French government granted letters-patent to the Brothers of the Christian Schools on this date. The existence and functioning of the Brothers’ Motherhouse at St. Yon (near Rouen) was thus approved, and the Institute was given the right to teach and to possess property.
