Dedication & Open House Officially Mark the Completion of the School’s Capital Campaign
The dedication of the Cullen Center for Excellence in Science and Residence for the Brothers of the Christian Schools took place Sunday, August 30, 2009 at St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute, in Buffalo, New York.
The event, hosted by board chairman Mark E. Brand ’80, dedicated and blessed the three-story facility and took the opportunity to thank everyone involved in making the project a success. In attendance was Bishop Edward U. Kmiec, donors from the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute community, faculty and staff, local dignitaries, and members of the general public.
“The benefits derived from the construction of this building are two-fold,” said President/Principal Robert T. Scott, AFSC. First, it allows St. Joe’s to reaffirm its commitment to our founder and to the Brothers of the Christian Schools. It also allows us to provide facilities commensurate with the abilities of those utilizing them – our science teachers and our students, who consistently perform to the highest of standards in various scientific subject areas.”
Following the dedication, the new science center was available to the public to explore, with St. Joe’s students serving as tour guides, and science experiment presenters. The Cullen Center for Excellence in Science includes two stories of classrooms and laboratories, interfaced and equipped with state-of-the-art teaching aids, scientific instrumentation and computer technology, including digital microscopes, SMART boards, wireless computer networks, and gas chromatographs. All will play a major role in enhancing a dynamic, relevant science curriculum.
The ceremony marks the completion of the Pride in our Past…Faith
in our Future capital campaign, established by the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute Board of Trustees in 2006. The ambitious campaign has proven resoundingly successful, with over $13.5 million raised to date – an unprecedented amount for St. Joe’s. The funds have been utilized to execute the construction of a new athletic field complex, in addition to the Cullen Center for Excellence in Science and Residence for the Brothers of the Christian Schools, while significantly strengthening the school’s endowments, which provide financial aid and scholarship assistance to deserving students.
