Even by St. Peter’s lofty standards, 2013-14 was a special season. The Eagles reached the CHSAA Intersectional semifinals for the first time since 2002, played for the Archdiocesan championship and knocked off the state’s top-ranked team in early February.
Some of their accomplishments were more familiar. St. Peter’s went undefeated against Staten Island competition while winning its 30th SIHSL title.
And for the 19th time since 1949, an Eagle has captured the Warren Jaques Award as Staten Island’s outstanding boys’ basketball player.
The 65th annual honor goes to senior guard Latrell Curtis. He is the 18th St. Peter’s player to receive the award — John Engles was a two-time winner — with 2011 recipient Stefan Bock being the most recent.
