Don’t tell St. Peter’s lighting never strikes the same place twice. It did Monday in the Bronx and the Eagles have proof.
Senior Jamir Ferebee nailed an improbable 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to give St. Peter’s a wild 72-70 CHSAA AA victory over previously undefeated Cardinal Hayes. Ferebee’s game-winning trey was made possible because senior point guard Glenn Sanabria forced the extra session by hitting a game-tying three at the regulation buzzer.
Both treys were launched from about NBA range and took place on the right wing, right in front of the St. Peter’s bench as time expired.
“I was like, “Oh My God,” said St. Peter’s coach Charlie Driscoll, whose team improved to 22-2 overall as it now turns its attention to Wednesday’s SIHSL Tournament semifinal against Susan Wagner. “The kids went crazy. They mobbed Jamir … they were on top of him. “It was unbelievable.”
