4/19/13 – Freeport, NY – Mr. Marc Roger, a Lasallian Volunteer from Barcelona, and Ms. Nancy Benoit traveled to Freeport, New York with 6 St. Raphael Academy students (Alyssa Fletcher, Maureen Doyle, Andy Li, Coral Santos, Daniel Arteaga, and Hannah Coderre) for a 3rd April service trip to The De La Salle School (a San Miguel school), and were welcomed with open arms. The De La Salle School is comprised of 66 boys from grades 5-8. CEO and founder, Brother Thomas Casey, is the former principal of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, RI.
Students helped out in individual classrooms and ran several workshops:
- 5th grade – Life of John Baptist de La Salle
- 6th grade – Service: New Testament — examples of Jesus modeling service
- 7th graders – Stepping Up to be Leaders
- 8th graders – Moving On To High School
Friday morning they presented a slide show of all their activities to the boys.
After visiting with the Lasallian Youth Group at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in Brooklyn and joining Tom Casey’s Brothers/Lasallian Volunteer Community for dinner and evening prayer, they returned to St. Raphael on Saturday afternoon.
