The walls at the Empire State Museum come to life just in time for the 10th anniversary of 9/11with a “Living Walls” September 11th mural. The 40 by 16 foot painting will cover an entire wall inside the front corridor of the west gallery. The massive mural consists of 20 separate plywood pieces depicting the scene at the World Trade Center, all done with spray paint.
Artists say that the medium connects with everyone, rich or poor, race or religion, who were impacted by the 9/11 attacks and the bond Americans shared in its aftermath.
“As terrible as everything was, there was still that feeling of unity, that feeling of everything being all together at that one moment in time,” said Living Walls project coordinator Samson Contompasis, a former La Salle School student.
You can check out the “Living Walls” project this week as the New York State Museum unveils its new exhibit, “Reflecting on September 11, 2001” this Friday, September 9th. The exhibit runs through April 2012.
