First Promises & Vows

Welcome Our Newest Members

August 2, 2014 – Lincroft, NJ – More than 100 Brothers, Contacts, family and friends were on hand at St. Mary’s Church in Colts Neck, New Jersey, a short distance from Christian Brothers Academy, to celebrate a Mass of initiation, renewal, and reaffirmation. Long time friend and minister for the Brothers, Reverend Frank Berna of La Salle University celebrated the Mass.

Accompanied by Br. Richard Buccina, FSC, Director of the Postulancy, Ernesto “Junior” Dominguez professed the Rite of First Promises, formerly requesting entrance to the Jeremy House Community, and taking the next step in discerning the life of a Christian Brother. Br. Richard joyfully accepted Junior to the Postulancy program, as did the entire DENA community of Brothers gathered.

Following First Promises, the youngest members of DENA’s Brothers were invited to the altar, surrounded by the eight Brother Jubilarians celebrating their years of service.

Br. David Deradoorian, with family looking on in the congregation, professed First Vows, surrounded by fellow young Brothers Anthony Baginski and Peter Nguyen. With his Novitiate year in Napa complete and vows proclaimed, Br. David is now an affirmed member of the Institute. Tony and Peter, a few years ahead of David in their vocations, renewed those same vows, pledging their continued fidelity to the Institute. The Brother Jubilarians flanking the young Brothers reaffirmed the vows they had taken 25, 50, 60, and 70 years ago, a testament to the Brothers’ tenets of faith and zeal.

The afternoon of celebration would not be complete without food and drink, the opportunity to socialize among the Brothers gathered, and offer personal congratulations to the young men that have heeded God’s call in their lives to service.

Superior General Celebration

July 19, 2014 – Wyndmoor, PA – Not an evening to celebrate Jubilarians, but an evening to celebrate none the less, one of the District’s very own, called to take on the highest office of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. Br. Robert Schieler, FSC, surrounded by family, friends, and Brothers, came home to La Salle College High School, his first assignment, where his vocation began. His own nephew, newly ordained Father Sean English, accompanied by Reverend Anthony Janton, AFSC, celebrated Mass, extending congratulations and blessings to Brother Bob as he starts his role as the Superior General of the Institute. Br. Bob’s fellow DENA Brothers who have watched from afar via the internet the unfolding of the 45th General Chapter, now could finally have the opportunity extend the accolade to their very deserving leader.

June 14, 2014 – In the beautiful shore town, Christian Brothers Center and the Chapel of Our Lady of the Star played host to eight Jubilee celebrants and their family and friends, along with many Brothers. With Reverend Robert Joerger, CP, AFSC, as presider, he spoke directly to the Brothers as he congratulated and blessed them. A more formal occasion, there were still plenty of laughs and stories shared about each of the Brother Jubilarians in this day of celebration.
