Gospel – John 3:16-18

God so loved the world that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him might not perish
but might have eternal life.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world might be saved through him.
Whoever believes in him will not be condemned,
but whoever does not believe has already been condemned,
because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Reflection on the Gospel

Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.

This is a famous passage.
We see “John 3:16” on placards waved even at sports events.
“God so loved the world…”
Older Catholics grew up learning that God made us to know him, to love him, and to serve Him in this life and to be happy with Him forever in the next.
There is another truth:
God made us to know us, to love us, and to serve us in this world and to be happy with us forever in the next.
The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is a good day to enjoy this idea.
