Gospel – John 6: 37-40
Jesus said to the crowds:
“Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
because I came down from heaven not to do my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.
And this is the will of the one who sent me,
that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,
but that I should raise it on the last day.
For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day.”
Reflection on the Sunday Gospel
Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God..
What incredible good news this is! “I will not reject anyone who comes to me.” I can come to Jesus just as I am with the assurance that I will find a ready welcome. There is more good news. I can live my life with the assurance that I will be raised on the last day. Eternal happiness awaits me. One of the joys of that day will be to be reunited with my loved ones who have gone before me.
There is a call to me here. Jesus is calling me to welcome those who come to me. This becomes quite a challenge when I would want to reject the person. I pray for the grace to rise to the challenge.
