Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, Superior General of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, has informed Brother Nick Gonzalez, FSC, that he will be appointed to a four-year term as Brother Visitor of the District of San Francisco New Orleans (SFNO), effective July 1, 2022.
Brother Nick will be SFNO’s second Brother Visitor, succeeding Brother Donald Johanson, FSC, who has served as SFNO’s Brother Visitor since 2014.
The appointment follows the completed nomination process held by the District and the review of results and recommendation by the Institute’s General Council.
Brother Robert’s formal announcement and canonical letter of obedience, as well as a message from Brother Nick to the District, will be issued after the first of the year, 2022.
According to Brother Donald, the Visitor transition process will take place over the next six months. “Brother Nick and I will be working closely together,” he shared, “to ensure a smooth transition of duties, as well as to assist him in his own personal transition into the role of Visitor. On behalf of our District leadership, I congratulate Brother Nick on his appointment and assure him of our full support.”
Commenting on his appointment, Brother Nick said, “I am very grateful to the Committee for a nomination process in which the nominees were able to listen and respond to the concerns of the Brothers and Partners. It was a wonderful dialogue and mutual discernment in which Brothers James Joost, John Montgomery, and I were able to find a great deal of common ground. All of this points to the movement of the Holy Spirit challenging all of us to respond faithfully and zealously to God’s ongoing call. This appointment is a call which I embrace, and I have been very touched by the kind words of encouragement and promises of fraternal support by my Brothers and our Partners. I ask and thank you for your prayers.”
