Buttimer Receives PhD
Brother Charles Henry (Buttimer) received his Ph.D. from Catholic University in June 1938. A Latin major, Brother Charles will remain at De La Salle College to become the director of studies there for the student Brothers of the New York and Baltimore districts.

Archivist’s Note
Brother Charles eventually became the first provincial of the LI-NE District, and then was elected superior general of the Christian Brothers in 1966.
Calixtus Receives Honorary Degree
Brother Calixtus, the respected school administrator from the New York District, received an honorary degree on June 7 from St. John’s University.

Finishing Terms
Completing six years of directorship at St. Dominic’s HS (Montreal) and at De La Salle (London, ON) are Brothers James and Ignatius, respectively. Brother Cyril is finishing nine years as superintendent of St. John’s Industrial School in Toronto. In August, Brother Stephen replaced Brother Cyril at St. John’s.

The chairman of the Board of Trustees of Lincoln Hall, Mr. John F. Hennessey, is scheduled to receive letters of affiliation (honorary membership) into the Christian Brothers on June 16.

Msgr. Edward McGolrick Dies
Msgr. Edward McGolrick [sic] died on August 28. He was taught by the Christian Brothers at St. James Academy (Brooklyn) and at Manhattan College (Class of 1877) and was a longtime pastor of St. Cecilia’s parish. He was an affiliated (honorary) member of the Brothers.
