Huether Named Principal in Pawtucket
In the Long Island-New District, Bro. Anthony Joseph (provincial) named Bro. Cosmas Francis (Heuther), principal of St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, as the new auxiliary provincial of that district. Bro. Francis entered the Brothers in 1930 and assumed his new duties on July 20, 1962. Eventually, he became the namesake of the well-known Heuther Workshop which is held each year.

Rogatian Philip Named Head of Psychology in Ontario
Bro. Rogatian Philip (Overend), head of the department of psychology at Assumption University in Windsor (ON), will retire in June. A teacher for five decades, Bro. Philip has taught at five Canadian universities during the past 35 years.
ARCHIVIST’S NOTE: Br. Philip also played a role in the development of the Psychology Department of La Salle College (now University).

Byrne Receives Two Master’s Degrees
Bro. Denis Thomas (later known as Bro. John Byrne) received two additional master’s degrees in May/June 1962—just two weeks apart from each other! One degree was from Pitt, while the other was from Penn (Chemistry).

Bro. Elzear Matthew (Kreis)
Bro. Elzear Matthew (Kreis)died on July 5, 1962, aged 82. This kindly gentleman had a tour of duty whose longest assignments were in Cumberland (MD), Central Catholic HS (Pittsburgh), and on the faculty of Anselm Hall (house of studies, Elkins Park, PA). The 1960 Harvest yearbook at the latter was dedicated to him. One distinction Bro. Matthew enjoyed was that his father was one of the first graduates (circa 1850) from the original Calvert Hall on Little Sharpe St. in Baltimore, and had been taught by the first American-born Christian Brother, Bro. Francis (McMullen).

Bro. George Cornelius (Wright)
Born in South Carolina in 1903 and taught by the Brothers in Augusta (GA), Bro. George Cornelius (Wright) died during an Ocean Rest retreat on August 22. With his gentle Southern accent and gentlemanly manner, he was remembered favorably by so many. “Brother George had a mind that could cut through the tangle of notions like a razor, and when he spoke, his words were clear, crisp, and often philosophically amusing.” His longest teaching stints were at Calvert Hall (1927; 1931-1937, and 1945-1953).
