Brother Sixtus Julian (Finegan), the oldest member of the New York District, died on February 13. “For many years he had been an outstanding example of alertness and vigorous health.” He was born June 29, 1879, making him 83.

Andrew John Greevy Death Shocks

Br-John-Patrick-GreevyThe untimely death of a young novice at Barrytown, Brother Andrew John (Greevy), shocked the entire New York District. The autopsy revealed the cause as an embolism; he was one month shy of his 19th birthday. Over 300 attended the funeral.

Brother Emmanuel John (Scanlon) was named male teacher of the year by the Catholic War Veterans of Pittsburgh.

An attorney-benefactor of the Baltimore District, Bernard J. Flynn, Esq., was presented letters of affiliation (honorary membership) into the Christian Brothers at his alma mater Calvert Hall (Towson, MD).

Brother Columban of Mary celebrated his 25th anniversary as a Brother on January 17 at Christian Brothers Academy (Lincroft, NJ).

On February 2, Brother Basilian John (Director of novices, LI-NE District) celebrated his 25th anniversary as a Brother at the Narragansett (RI) novitiate. It was the first time that a solemn Mass was celebrated in the chapel there.
